The Ascendant is the most innate and instinctive of the twelfth faces through which the world sees us and how we see our world. It is the personal image others see when we engage in movement such as walking, jumping, or simply interacting with the world. People around us know our type of walk, our dressing style, the facial expressions we make as we converse or express emotion, our mannerism. The Ascendant is an open book even though we often are not aware that we present ourselves like that, but it is the first energy others notice about us. We cannot hide the physical and most visible expression of our Ascendant.

For example: you might think that you are an intense and complex person (say you have Scorpio Sun or Moon) but you have Gemini Ascendant and most people describe you are a breezy, light, chatty and funny person.

The Ascendant can also be understood as the first automatic Mask(personality) we present. It activates as a second nature. In simpler words, we do not have to think about expressing it, we simply act our Ascendant out. For example: you meet some acquaintance on the street, a Sagittarius rising can wave at them enthusiastically and shout hello with a big smile, even if they were not in a mood for this. While a Virgo rising might give a shy nod and look away for a second uncertain what to do, even if they want to stop and hug.

The Ascendant dictates our body types regardless of our race. The rest of the planets and points can modify body parts, however, our body form will remain relatively the same according to the sign we have at the ascending point in our natal charts.

Aries Ascendant:

Most Aries Ascendant tend to lean forward as they walk, almost as if they are ready to run. They tend to have a slight curb compact back; their skull tends to be on the bigger side. Taurus Ascendant:

These people walk slow and tend to rarely deviate once a physical activity has been initiated by them. They tend to have unmistakable short and thick necks, stocky shoulders, and overall body.
