Natal Moon - The Mother Conundrum

In the natal chart the Moon is supposed to represent the mother and family.

We know that siblings can have totally different moon signs and aspects. But would that mean that the mom treated them very differently and was a different person with each child or could it mean that our own energetic imprint and nature is activating this specific behavior from the mom towards us?

Indeed siblings with a bigger age difference, can experience the mom differently because she is at different stages of her life.

For example my Leo moon, always saw my mom as the most beautiful woman, a fashion icon.
But my 17 year younger brother has Cancer Moon and at that stage of life, our mom was way more domestic, stayed at home and cooked, nurtured him deeply.

But what about siblings with small age difference, who grew at the same time?
Was the mom acting differently to them, or they were viewing her differently or each child elicited a different response and attitude from the mom?

What do you think? I feel more and more inclined that it goes both ways but especially that the child itself, with its own energy/karma etc influences the emotional response from his early childhood family and of course, later on in life too.

For example my Scorpio Moon son is so intense emotionally, he feels so attached and desirous of deep affection and one on one exclusive time, that it is hard to refuse him this, I show my love to him in more scorpionic ways-all consuming, he just makes everyone feel towards him in Scorpionic ways- love/hate dynamics- they are either magnetically attracted to him and he gets under their skin or they are on daggers! Of course the same with me.

While my Aquarius Moon daughter is easy going, gets along with everyone, feels emotionally self sufficient and independent but her affection is detached, more mental and refined, not as raw and visceral as the Scorpio Moon. This activates me to act with her almost as if we are friends and equal (Aquarius)
. If she is upset she can be stone cold and distanced, no matter how much I try, so I just learned to give her space and talk it out- so I see how I adapt my behavior towards her to be more Aquarius like.

My heart does not ache as much when we separate for a day or so, while with my Scorpio Moon boy, his good byes are long and heart breaking, even if I am just going away for the day. He keeps checking on me, keeps wanting to connect deeply. Then again he makes extreme statements like: “mommy, you are the best mom in the world, I love you so much, I can’t live without you, I will marry you!” to: “I hate you, wish you were not my mommy, wish I went to Heaven so you will miss me!” ! He would coax the best and the worst from me and anyone else. He would tease relentlessly and cross boundaries to see how far he can go. Of course, unless I was a saint, I would also react more extreme with him- in love or in arms!

So I am starting to think more and more that our Moons are not just describing our moms but actually how we want to be nurtured and loved and hence we extract this behavior from the parent, in a healthy or unhealthy way.
I would also ask myself, what about moms/parents who abuse their child, who put them down, who are missing or need to be taken care of etc, how can any child want to be loved this way? But then again it is the level of consciousness of the parent involved plus the need of the child’s soul to experience certain extreme and painful situations.

It is a complex and philosophical question like what comes first- the egg or the chicken?

And then again our moons would be how we parent later on in life. If one has a painful Moon and was not loved and nurtured as a child, could they upgrade and be a better parent- that is the work of the Moon- take it to the higher manifestations of the sign and aspects later in life with the people in your life.

What are your observations? How do you think and see the Moon? As the objective behavior of the parent? Or the character patterns of the child which provoke the parent to play this role for the child. Or a mixture of both?
